In 2006, I was recruited to chair a three-part series of fundraising events in Austin, Texas. I went into it with no small amount of fear, but I came out with confidence that I had found something for which I was both passionate and highly capable.
My natural skill set includes detail-orientation, and the ability to see a goal and break down the steps (and timelines!) necessary to meet it. I'm calm under pressure, an effective communicator, and I enjoy creating and following a budget. In 2008, I entered the nonprofit industry as an in-house event coordinator, project manager, and communications lead. In ten years of nonprofit experience, I managed a broad variety of events for 10 to 1,000+ attendees, and a range of strategic, communication, and logistic projects.
While in the nonprofit sector, I saw the pervasive trend of employee burnout, and organizations saying 'yes' to exciting events and projects that they simply did not have the staff, resources, or expertise to execute well.
In 2015, I moved from Houston, Texas, to Davis, California, and a former employer asked me to provide consulting services from a distance. A new dream grew as I began to envision bringing my expertise to small to medium sized nonprofits. By handling event and project management, I enable and equip nonprofit staff to focus on what they do best: programs & services and supporter relationships.
As a consultant, I have had the honor of working on auctions, crab dinners, training events, and more. I've provided project management to develop a donor database, communications rebranding, website redesign, departmental restructure, and policy development. I live in Davis, California, with my husband (an accounting professor who researches nonprofit financial reporting) and daughters. I'm on the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Sacramento and volunteer with Yolo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Some of our favorite activities are visiting the beautiful sites around Davis - from San Francisco to Napa to Tahoe, there is so much to explore in Northern California! We also enjoy travel, and I would love to hear your favorite destinations.
